SAND + FOG was born of a vision shared by three women who believed candles should not only smell good, but look good too. We are living proof that the California Dream is alive and well, and our hope is to bring light and happiness into your life. Kristi, Elisa, and Jill founded our company with this mission in mind.

Our scented candles are thoughtfully designed for your home. They are free of lead and zinc, and we do not use any of the potentially hazardous phthalates regulated by the CPSC. We do not test on animals, nor do we hire any third parties to do animal testing for us. While we do not intentionally use animal-based products, we cannot speak to the testing process of our raw ingredients.

As with almost all scented candles, our fragrance contains both natural and synthetic ingredients. We adhere to the standards set by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) and follow the safety guidelines of the National Candle Association (NCA). The fragrance development typically takes anywhere between 24-36 months, during which time the fragrances are paneled among a select group of qualified consumers, tested for product stability, and reviewed for safety and compliance.

Our 100% cotton wicks are made in the USA and are lead-free. Our candles are designed for clean burning, with 12-oz candles having 2 wicks, 24-oz candles having 3 wicks, and 36-oz candles having 7 wicks.

We encourage the reuse and repurposing of our sustainable wood lids and glass vessels throughout your home. When it comes to candle safety, we recommend burning candles within sight, keeping them out of the reach of children and pets, and never burning them near anything that can catch fire. Remove all wrapping, labels, and decorations before lighting, and place the candle on a temperature-safe surface away from other heat sources. Keep the wick trimmed to 1/4 inch at all times, and if the flame smokes, extinguish it and shorten the wick. Avoid allowing wick trimmings to accumulate in the wax pool, and burn the candle for 3 to 4 hours at a time, keeping the wick centered. To avoid glass cracking, do not burn the last 1/4 inch of wax in the jar, and remember that the container will be hot when the candle is lit. Do not expose the candle to extreme temperatures.

The top notes of our fragrances are the most noticeable components, making up the initial impression. The middle notes bring the top and base notes together, forming the heart of the fragrance. The base notes make up the longest-lasting materials and create the final impression.
